GRIEVING THE HOLY SPIRIT

“DO NOT GRIEVE THE HOLY SPIRIT OF GOD.” EPH. 4:30

Just how do we grieve the Holy Spirit? When we know the difference between what to do and what not to do, and we choose what we shouldn’t do we are grieving the Holy Spirit. Telling lies, stealing, not forgiving one another are all giving opportunity to the devil. Any ungodly behavior that we knowingly do breaks the heart of our God. The Holy Spirit becomes grieved because when we do these things we are tarnishing God’s good name. He is also grieved because he desires to reward us for our obedience. The Holy Spirit knows that sin damages our relationship with God. Sin saddles us with unnecessary burdens that our God never intended for us.

What do we do to keep from grieving the Spirit of God? We can do the following:

Choose to keep his commandments and lead a disciplined life;

Depend upon the Spirit for guidence;

When we do sin, go directly to God and confess our sin and repent of it, changing our behavior to conform to God’s word.

As we ask the Holy Spirit for his guidance each day we continue to build our faith and confidence and gain assurance in a successful Christian walk with the Lord. Stay close to God with prayer, praise and the reading of his word. PRAISE THE LORD!
