“Remain in me, and I will remain in you. For a branch cannot produce fruit if it is severed from the vine, and you cannot be fruitful unless you remain in me.” John 15:4
” Yes, I am the vine, you are the branches. Those who remain in me, and I in them, will produce much fruit. For apart from me you can do nothing.” John 15:5
Just what is the fruit that we are to be bearing? What does it look like? Is it easy or is it hard to produce? The scriptures are very clear that the fruit of the Spirit consists of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. All of us who are truly in Christ Jesus are distinguished from those who are not, in that we have been gifted the Holy Spirit which enables us to bear fruit. If we are plugged into the right source, we will desire to produce the fruit that is required of us. Jesus tells us in John 15:6: “Anyone who does not remain in me is thrown away like a useless branch and withers. Such branches are gathered into a pile to be burned.” We are all given a chance to accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior. There are those who will deny him from day one. There are those who will plug into him as their source, and try to live in the Spirit, but find it to be too hard and fall away. And there will be those who accept Jesus and will live lives that reflect the exact fruits our Lords want us to produce. No, it is not easy to live in this world, surrounded by evil of all kinds, and at the same time, live in the Spirit, producing his fruit in great amounts. However, if we are plugged into the correct source each day, our spirits will be renewed with the freshness of the fruits of the Spirit. PRAISE THE LORD IN ALL THINGS!
