” They nailed Him to the cross.” Luke 23:33
It is easy to live our lives with the benefits that our Lord Jesus has provided for us, without remembering the intimate details of his death. We need to remember that if God had not sent his son, or Jesus had been unwilling to come to this earth to be sacrificed, you and I would have a crucifixion of our own to attend. Sometimes I believe that we take for granted what Jesus did for us. We forget the persecution he endured in the 3 1/2 years of his public ministry. We forget the constant criticism and opposition from the religious leaders of his time. We forget the mockery and slander, the physical threats and violence he faced on a daily basis. We forget him being falsely accused of blasphemy, and ultimately being arrested and tortured. All of this led up to what is considered to be the most humiliating and dreadful death ever. He did this because of you and me. He did this because of his love for us. This may be hard for many to understand but his love for us was selfless, unconditional, and empathetic towards each of us. His love, agape love, was a love so strong and continues to be so strong, that it included a sacrifice, the sacrifice of His life for ours. All we have to do is invite Him into our hearts, confess we are sinners, repent and accept Him. Yes, we each face our own problems, some of us more than others. But when we are going through these trials or temptations all we have to do is look to Jesus and remember what He did in situations far greater than ours. The crucifixion of Jesus was so much more than him being nailed to a cross. It was all of the persecution and obstacles that led up to his crucifixion that make his death that much more meaningful to his children, you and me. PRAISE THE LORD IN ALL THINGS!
